<p>What I like about the Unknown is that it is ambiguous in the sense that nothing in it is explained. I personal like to think of it as an "Alice's Wonderland" type place, in which Greg and Wirt go to when jumping over the garden wall. </p>

and its my theory that the unknown is a place for spirits that are lost in purgatory because as the narrator says that the unknown is lost within the clouded annals of history therfore the unknown has to be a place of purgatory because it is a land lost in time and i do agree that the strange and wonderus things you'd see in the unknown is kind of like something you'd see out of alice in wonderland or the wizard of oz.
