Greg Concept Profile
Gregory is the younger of the two half-brothers originally pitched in the series pitch bible titled "Tome of the Unknown." (Not to be confused with the pilot Tome of the Unknown). The older brother's name was originally Walter.

Gregory and his brother Walter accidentally board a train destined for the afterlife. They realize that's the case when the conductor removes his face to reveal a skeleton. They jump from the train midjourney. They wander into the nearby forest. There they encounter a devil named Old Scratch, who tricks Gregory into a "Faustian" deal. Old Scratch promises to return the boys home if they read a book of forgotten stories titled "the Tome of the Unknown."If the duo fail they will be whisked away to "live in the dark kingdom forever." Gregory is quick to sign the contract which is what persuades the hesitant Walter into signing as well. Then Old Scratch rips the book up and tosses the pages into the air. The first iteration of Gregory is considered to be largely consistent with the version that appears in Over the Garden Wall.
One of the major differences between Gregory's concept and Gregory in the released show is the outfit that he wears. In the original pitch he was supposed to wear a sailors outfit, but in the show he wears his tea kettle and overalls to make a makeshift elephant costume.
