— Margueritte Grey to Quincy Endicott in "Mad Love".

Margueritte Grey is a character in Episode 5, "Mad Love” (voiced by Bebe Neuwirth) who appears alongside Quincy Endicott. The two live in the same giant mansion and mistake each other for ghosts. Margueritte seems to have a romantic attraction to Endicott, shown when they kiss at the end of the episode.

Appearance[]

Margueritte's character has gone through many transformations

in her character art development. The first sketches portray her with a rounder nose, like Quincy Endicott, instead of a triangular nose. Her French pouf was less uniform and shaped more like a fluffy inverted and elongated trapezoid. A third sketch had her shawl extend midway down her dress, while there were only two levels of her pouf.

The bottom layer being the biggest and the top being a small bun. A fourth sketch has the pouf shaped all together as a single puff with the top being where the flower tie and bun rested. In other sketches Margueritte has smaller eyes and visible cheekbones, the last has her face appear more aged and older. Generally, all the sketches have many things in common, this being her dress design, shawl, pouf, sleeve cuffs, earrings and choker, bodice, hair ribbon, and flower hair tie.

In the series and comic book her dress and accessories are uniform. Her two piece dress remained consistent, with an intentional, 'bleu de france' colored dress with a decorative azure ribbon above the white hemline on the bottom of the dress. She wears a removable matching bleu de france botton-up bodice and canary ribbons on her bodice, hair, and short mantelet.

The white mantelet has a ruffled collar, similar to her ruffled mid-length sleeve hem, while the center of her mantelet is slight split midway. She wears two dangling pearl-like earrings, and a matching bleu de france choker with a silver heart pendant.

Personality[]

She owns her own tea company named after herself which shows that despite her appearance and associations of her appearance to her time period, that she is an independent businesswomen and confident. She was able to compete equally with her male competitor Endicott Health Tea, and carries herself as an educated and eloquent speaker. In the comics we see that compared to Endicott, Margueritte has knowledge of tea growing and tasting.

Quincy Endicott[]

It seems that like Quincy, Margueritte, who had been wandering over into his mansion, had fallen in love at first sight with Quincy. Initially mistaking him to be a ghost she likely thought that their love would be impossible. When she learns that he is alive, and her business competitor she is pleasantly surprised and kisses him. In the comics it is revealed that they marry, and work together in their businesses. She appears to be very caring with Endicott and is also patient with him and Fred when they mess up.

Trivia[]

  • Her house and attire are French Rococo style, as stated by Wirt, whereas Endicott's mansion has a very different style, Georgian architecture.
  • She appears in the ongoing comics series in issue #20.
  • Nick Cross reveals that her character design was inspired by Marie Antoinette.
